The Artist

SCENE. A SMALL ROOM.INSIDE SITS AN OLD MAN SURROUNDED BY PAINTS BRUSHES
PAINTINGS ETC.

C.U.THE OLD MAN.

Here we see the great artist Vincent van Gogh sat in thoughtful mood before his
easel. For awhile he ponders the canvas before him, with brushes in hand he
studies the blank canvas. The longer he studies the canvas, the more he seems to
be getting distraught and distressed. After awhile he becomes so angry he picks up a knife and cuts off an ear.

C.U.OF THE OLD MANS FACE.NOW A PICTURE OF SMILES AS HE PAINTS HAPPILY AWAY.

We look down to see the old man holding his ear in one hand and brushes in
other. He`s mixing colours together smiling away,he`s finally found the artist`s
palette hes been looking for.

You mean he's using his ear as a palette? I know there aren't many art shops in the French countryside, but that's still a bit hardcore.

Vincent is a good subject to write sketches about though - so off you go.

Hi Steve

Might be quite funny visually if he had one enormous ear the size of a palette. Your scene description is way too prose-y though; cut to the chase quicker:

"VINCENT VAN GOGH LOOKS THOUGHTFULLY AT CANVAS. HE BECOMES DISTRAUGHT AND AGITATED AND SUDDENLY PICKS UP A KNIFE AND CUTS HIS EAR OFF."

might be better.

Dan

Yeah I could see that working better.I need to do that writer thing of sitting
back for awhile from something and returning to it later, edit, rewrite then
have a look.

cheers Steve

Yes - good one. He could also have found the colour he was looking for.

he could start waxing his wife's bikini line instead of painting

I've said the same elsewhere; but with Dan's tweak to the ending, this could work nicely. The boy can write a punchline, damn his oily hide.
