Episodes you hate from Sitcoms you love!

Have we done this before? Sorry if we have.

I watched Only Fools: A Royal Flush again recently and it reminded me why I hate it so much. Forget your Noughties comeback episodes, this is the real crime against Delboy and Rodders. It has a few shining moments, like Del clay pigeon shooting with a sawn off shotgun, but overall it's horrible.

Sullivan wanted slapping for writing the script. The theatre scene is far too long and dull, Vicky isn't at all likeable, Rodney is far too snotty and Albert becomes a stereotype. However, the biggest crime is that Del is a rude, greedy bully. He's always been selfish and a bit dim sometimes, but he'd never hurt his family. He's a nasty piece of work and for a Fools fanatic like myself, it's painful viewing.

Anymore?

The last three specials. God awful. Miami Twice is terrible as well.

Most of Red Dwarf VIII, and a lot of VII (bar the excellent Duct Soup)

Miami Twice is painful to watch.

I didn't so much mind the last three, although it did spoil the 'illusion' a bit, as t'were.

the mighty boosh episode in series two where they go off into the desert. just dull.

Aw.

They warned us before it was on, but I know what you mean. I've grown to love that episode, but it took a while.

Black Books series 2 and 3

I agree and Sullivan has essentially admitted as much. He did say that if he'd been able to attend the filming then he'd have changed the script and asked David Jason to play Del differently.

I agree again except for the comment about Duct Soup. I think that's the worst Dwarf ep.

Otherwise I would pick out the first of The Office Christmas Specials, a lot of I'm Alan Partridge Series 2, some of The Royle Family Series 3, Brittas Empire Series 6 and 7...

The Office Christmas Specials, a lot of I'm Alan Partridge Series 2,

Really?? The Office Christmas Specials were considerably better than both series 1 and 2. The series are both good (but not amazing) whereas the specials are exceptional.

And Alan Partridge...I guess since you're comparing it to I'm Alan Partridge Series 1 which was the better, but it is still very funny throughout, for me.

I very strongly disagree but there we are. I think that the specials certainly have their moments but there are also dull sections and they should have cut the length down considerably.

Oh yes, it's opinions and people disagree all the time with them...one of the beauties of being a human. I don't mind if a sitcom doesn't have me laughing ALL the time, I'm happy for them to do set-up for a big pay-off in the end. But, having said that, the specials have me laughing nearly all the way through anyway.

Good thread this one.

Apart from the obvious OFAH specials, I'd like to nominate most of the final series of Coupling; the Extras 2 episode with Ian McKellan; and Peep Show series 4 ep 5 (the stag episode on the boat). There are quite a few episodes of Dad's Army that are pretty weak too but I don't know their names.

most of the final series of Coupling;

Definitely agree! I loved series 1-3, but the fourth without Jeff was nowhere near as good. The new character...I can't even remember his name that's how poor he was...never felt like he fitted in. There were still some good bits, but nothing on the other series...serieses...whats the plural of series?!

Not great. A few good bits - Simon Pegg's episode is ace.

Worst Dwarf ep? I think it's brilliant. Kryten's 'rusty gate' bit ("We were glad of the anecdote, ma'am".) Cat's "Woo - boy is it CRAMPED!" And Lister's brilliant speech about his fear tight spaces. One of Doug Naylor's finest moments.

Partridge 2 is a bit of a chore to watch I find. Too much over-elaborating on stuff from AP. Part of the humour I know, but its a bit much. Episode 2 is a bit rubbish I recall. It does have some brilliant lines in though.

Royles 3 I like, but the finale wasn't too good. Bit pointless and not all that funny. Worst episode for me.

I liked all of Peep Show 4. I had big hopes and wasn't disappointed - although the burning the dog bit may have been a tad over the top!

Series. :)

Absolutely. The occasional good bit but maybe they shouldn't have carried on after Jeff quit.

I quite like that Cat line but it's the only joke that I enjoy in the whole ep. The fact that Lister had clearly never had that fear in the previous series is another problem.

I like all of Series 4 too but the 'gay' episode from Series 1 I'm not so keen on.

Although I love Whatever Happened To The Likely Lads as well, there is one episode which is tedious. I can't remember the name but it features Terry leaving town and going to Scotland I think.

Funny you should mention the OFAH ones because when I was a kid I was OFAH daft and even I watched Miami Twice and Royal Flush wondering if this was the same show. It's so easy to lose your characters.

Alan Partridge all of series 2. Thought they totally lost it. There's too big a build-up with some of these things though. When it's a quiet hit it's great. And then they say they're writing a new series so many years later and you think 'let it go'.

Thought the early one of Peep Show in S4 when they're in a hotel was another one to lose character. Too much of minor characters is not why we watch the show.

Also, those flashback episodes in US Sitcoms. I love Friends and the like but when they're doing flashbacks all the way through I have to switch it off.
