Doctor Who... Page 931

In the case of John Lennon, the movie Imagine was great, as it was made entirely from archival footage. Lennon biopics paled in comparison to the real thing. Likewise with Who, there is such a treasure trove of amazing archives, which could be superbly presented over a mini-series. So why the dooce make a series with actors? Unless it is somehow more amazing than the real thing.

You can't really compare a documentary and a drama equally though. A documentary will be nothing but raw fact. This Doctor Who thing will obviously embellish here and there to tell the story effectively. They're different things altogether.

In the case of Doctor Who's 50th anniversary, why not make a brand new documentary telling the whole Who story by utilizing existing archives as well as some new interviews? Why make a ruddy series "based on a true story" with actors?

Because why not? There are tons of Doctor Who docs available for the fan if that's what they want to watch, this is something else. A treat for fans and the casual viewer alike. Settle back with a marathon of the Doctor Who DVD docs if that's your cup of tea, I'll very happily have both!

I do like all those documentaries, dramatisations of golden age telly.

I mean I think the stories about the Carry On crew are far more interesting than the films. And certainly Dr Who attracted a rum crew of rogues.

Oh dear. Not keen on embellishing the facts. Still it worked with the Andy Kaufman biopic. Didn't work with Mick Jagger's Ned Kelly movie.

So I guess we can look forward to a reference to the fact the early Dalek operators were all gay.

Were they? I would have assumed they were midgets, with big bladders who didn't get claustrophobic.
Needing to be that and gay would have been a tall order to recruit for.

Were they?

They would crouch/sit inside the Dalek and they needed strong, dextrous legs to operate pedals or just to glide along the floors. So old ballet dancers were brought in to operate the Daleks.

'I don't mind Gatiss being gay, but why does he have to MENTION it all the time...'

I just hope it doesn't suck. But given that I think the Matt Smith era sucks, I'm not expecting much.

Here' my choice to play Patrick Troughton - Ryan Pope. (He's in the current McDonalds ad - the 'No, you're alright', one).

He looks like Troughton and - unlike Reece Shearsmith - he can act!

Oh yeah, that really cool Maccie D ad touching on the modern phenomenon of the step parent..blah blah blah.

Reece Shearsmith is an excellent actor.

I'd not seen that before. I had seen the Dalek lesbian porn film, but not the Gay Daleks. Funny stuff. Better than Matt Smith era Who.

EDIT: Part 1 was good but it rapidly went downhill. Much like etc, etc.
