Doctor Who... Page 899

Paul McGann on the cover of DWM, in his new Doctors costume. Even though it's only seen on CD front covers! Be great if he could be involved in a multi-Doctor adventure.

Still in one short season he managed to hit some quite remarkable highs; Dalek, Father's Day, The Dr Dances and I even like the cheapo when they took the micheal out of reality TV.

I mean on most of the episodes the cheapness shone through. But there was a darkness and madness that's only just starting to creep back in.

He was quite good in the movie, even if the movie it's self sucked.

The movie looked rather lovely though. At least. And yes, he was and would have been a great Doctor.

I liked Paul MacCann, the big finish stuff he does is great. But the film was awful, the kissing scene, that bloke who played the Master! I think when you compared Eccleston to Hartnell you were spot on, the crotchety persona and mystery of the character. Maybe we haven't seen the last of him in the role, there is certainly unfinished business there.

And the bravery. The Dr as a morally ambiguosm fallible mystery figure, is easily the best version. And Hartnell's is still one of the bravest.

There's a real cowardice about new Who. When it ties its self up in knots to dramatically write some one out without killing them.

Exactly, he is an alien and his codes and morals are different. That otherness was most perfectly shown by Hartnell and Eccleston, although still with humour. Troughton went to comedic for me, the recorder and daft hats. Pertwee was a reflection of the seventies, conservation etc. Tom Baker could also portray that moral ambiguity. Tennant could be too touchy feely for my liking, and the same is true of Matt Smith.

Is anyone eles sick of the whole "the doctor is an all powerfull god" stuff. That we got a bit in the 7th doctor era, and its all over the new series.

I like the doctor being a regular guy doing his best to make things better. Can stand all the "he is like fire, he is like ice" crap.

Yea the whole legend and might of been Merlin etc Crap. I think that's why he has been wiped from history to get rid of all that shite

Yeh the immortal God, who acts like a kid with ADHD and has a glass jaw. And is actually completely rubbish compared to River Song is just so awful.

Now compare him to the "lonely embittered traveller" in the Drs wife and look at how it can sing.

Or the "embittered, scared and vengeful refugee" in Dalek and you can see how thew whole story can snap back into shape.

For me Ecclestons Season was a bit ruined by the Bad Wolf reveal & the lets just magically wipe everything out to fix things.

Billie Pipers omnipresence eventually caused Torchwood Miracle day as well, and for that I can't forgive.

Oh come on you can't blame one episode for a whole series.

I think you owe Dr Who an apology.

I didn't even mention the Green farty ones that took up nearly a quarter of the series.

I tried to watch Torchwood once, lasted all of four minutes, it was the most godawful shite ever.

I think when people continually harp back to ye olde Doctors of yore, it isn't so much the actor or the character of the Doctor they pine for, it's the storytelling.

Yeah, all the Doctors had good and bad episodes, but for the recent Doctor, having a 20% success rate (at best!) is just not good enough.

And what the old series hit rate?

Torchwood had such a childish attitude to its adult content. Like a 14 year old swearing because they think that makes them grown up.
