a wizened old hag.

Your point is slightly destroyed by the perception that a woman of mid 50s (Gillan 21? 22? plus 34) would automatically become a wizened old hag. Admittedly makeup could have tried a bit harder but Sharon Stone anyone?

No way!

Sigorney Weaver though or Helen Mirren...

Maybe she will wake up again in another hospital and the one who was stuck for thirty years was just made of wax again.. like you know it's all been a dream. That would be cool.

LOL.

:)

Sorry if I mistakenly implied that a 50+ women would automatically be a hag; the point I was trying to make was that the writers could have had Amy wait for any period of time, and have her age to any degree they choose. They chose to have Rory encounter an Amy who was only slightly different to the original one, rather than have her more interestingly wizened.

No they had as a hardened warrior woman, whethered and hardened by time.

Good idea (especially when DS9 came up with it first), but let down because Karen Gillian would struggle with Sara Jane "What's that Dr dialogue?"

You can only realistically age actors so far - after a certain point you need another actor. It might have been interesting to see an old Amy, but I'm not sure how effective a Pond-with-a-zimmer-frame and sonic-hearing-aid would be at fighting off the robots. No matter how silly and camp the robots are.

Yes, like they did with The Doctor when The Master had him oldified and caged up. I don't see why that would be a problem.

She could easily have lost her looks and still be a fighter.

Can I reiterate that my original point was in reply to Marc's comment regarding feminism. It just makes me a bit uncomfortable when women are so often depicted as being hot and sexy, even when they are written as being pretty old.

I didn't think she was still hot and sexy. They could perhaps have emphasised the differences more, and I suspect if you were alone that long you'd hack off most of your hair and perhaps have a few scars, but they didn't do too bad a job of ageing her to around...50ish?

It's a rather obvious idea, especially with a time travel series; I Doubt they copied.

Gillan is attractive, when she's old she will more than likely still be attractive to some degree.

But the writers could have had her wait longer and become more aged.

does anyone eles dislike River Song? I think she is the most contrived character I have ever seen.

I think when she was "nudge wink nudge" Bernice Summerfield she was alright (albeit in one of the best New Who episodes)

But once they killed off her supporting cast and made her a sort of female Cpt Jack then yeh boring.
