Watching "The Girl In The Fireplace" at the moment. I think the new Smith series theme tune might be better than the Tennant one.

You're so wrong. The best arrangement is the 1974 one but the Tennant one is definitely better than the current nonsense. (actually probably already re-arranged/mixed, since it's been roundly condemned).

This is the best one

Definitely.

I am rather partial to the '80s ones. But only due to nostalgia I expect.

I love the eighties ones, with the explosion at the start.

I've grown to quite like the one in the last series now, after initially hating its very balls.

Perhaps it could be said that all music works because of nostalgia of sorts. The beat is reminiscent of the heart, patterns of sounds remind us of things we've heard before, etc. Certainly most people seem to like new music which sounds a lot like older music.

The genius of the Doctor Who theme is how ominous and menacing it sounds.
I can't think of another theme tune that comes close.

Yay.

We were all fighting for your reinstatement mate.
Apart from Godot Taxis he tried to talk us all out of it.

Laughing out loud

I even had a Chip tribute avatar
But that Nasty Bigfella 'Motivated' me into changing it

Motivated by bigfella? Now I've heard everything!

I never found it menacing - just exciting. Some theme tunes that come close are The Tomorrow People (but a mite monotonous), Space 1999 (maybe not so scary), Perry Mason (perhaps too plodding), The Tripods (well, not so close really) and The Twighlight Zone.

I don't find it menacing, but very dramatic.
And now they've rubbished it a bit, without completely ruining it.
