Doctor Who... Page 421

You mean the Peter Davison era never had Daleks or Cybermen? Or the Bill Hartnell era never had them?

The Cybermen were introduced in William Hartnell's last story - The Tenth Planet.

To return to the subject of the theme tune briefly, they always f**k it up in the end because they never know why it's good. They f**ked up the Alien in the Alien franchise in the end by giving it dinosaur legs. One of the reasons it was creepy was because it had human legs and long toenails.

The Cybermen always had chest units which powered their bodies until the Earthshock design withered it away. The result was they just resembled robots rather than some kind of human machine hybrid kept alive by fragile technology.

They didn't quite resemble Robots though.
More like people in Silver coloured suits.

The only Cybermen who resemble Robots are the new ones.
And no'one likes them, or so I've heard.

They should revisit the original design and concept of The Cybermen, because it's potentially properly horrific. Some really spooky stuff could be done with them.

Yeah, the point is it shouldn't look too good. They f**ked up their bodies by doing this - they made themselves look ugly and primitive and a bit sad... They tried to do a post modern take when they brought them back by using computer terminology like 'upgraded' and 'deleted' and showing the scene where the Cyberman is revealed to be a woman who was going to get married but I don't think it worked.

Really the concept of the Cybermen is flawed because if they truly had no human emotions left they obviously would conquer anything they'd stay at home to conserve energy...

Invasion!

Tomb of the Cybermen was my favourite novelisation when I was a kid. The actual story when I finally saw it could never live up to it.

Tomb of the Cybermen was my favourite novelisation when I was a kid. The actual story when I finally saw it could never live up to it.

Question: Does the novelisation have the great exchange about "length" between the Doctor, Jamie and Victoria?

The Doctor: You look very nice in that dress, Victoria.
Victoria: Thank you. Don't you think it's a bit... , uh?
The Doctor: A bit short? Oh, I shouldn't worry about that. Look at Jamie's.
Jamie: Ey, I'll have you know that... Oh, aye!

And does it mention how the Doctor and Jamie unwittingly hold hands moments before that exchange?

SPOILER ALERT:
It's not much of a spoiler, since it's already been 'trailed'....

..... but I assume it relates to a future show. Daleks in sandbagged defensive positions wearing military webbing, what's all that about? The 'costume' looks very silly indeed!

I really need to watch "The Invasion." I recently watched "Tomb of The Cybermen," and found 60s Cybermen far better than their recent incarnation.

Oh, and Kenneth - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OD926WSh5w8

:D

Troughton is great!

Daleks in World War Two. The 'why' we have yet to discover!

I lost interest a bit in the TV show when Peter Davison took over.
They never had Daleks or Cybermen or any good enemies(to start with) and it all looked very cheap.

What I liked about the Pertwee/Baker era was that there was a stronger space-opera feel, whereas the New Who is more often like a costume drama.

It was more their peculiar Dalek costume I'm querying; why would a Dalek wear webbing?
