I'd say that was an overstatement really; RTD did some mighty fine episodes too. Midnight, or The Waters Of Mars spring quickly to mind as great episodes.

Matt didn't grow up obsessed with Dr Who, it wasn't even on. He'd not dreamed of being the Doctor, in fact he recently said it was just another acting job like any other.
Hardly as dedicated and enthusiastic as Tennant in the role.
Mostly not his fault of course, and I do like that he's trying with the whole writing little Who stories and things, but let's not go too far!

Jesus it's an acting job not a religious experience. Maybe Tennant's obsession is what made his role so infuriatingly sentimental at time.
Matt Smith is a good actor, with a good take on the Dr and a funky bow tie.

This is a bit of an overstatement, in my opinion. Doctor Who was on while Matt Smith was aged zero to seven, and then there was the Paul McGann movie when he was 14.
I just hope Matt Smith's Doctor abandons the smug twee glee beloved by Tennant.
Well I'm only going by what Matt has been saying in interviews! Which is that Dr Who wan't on.
If he's been talking rubbish in his interviews, well that's rather par for the course.

It was great, but let's calm ourselves. The lack of respect RTD gets is remarkable. I pray that when I eventually become the show runner of Doctor Who and I leave it in exceptional shape for the next man to build upon I don't get treated with the same contempt

I didn't call him a tool. Nor did I say that he doesn't care about the show. I said it comes across that way. Because it does. To me and to everyone I've talked to about it - until now. He might be a total obsessive, and the loveliest guy you could wish to know: but he needs another week at the BBC PR course.

You're continuing to put words in my mouth. I didn't dislike the episode. I'm just not bum-loving it. It was passable, but nothing special.
I really enjoyed it - was grinning all the way through. Loved the giant eye spaceship.
I think I enjoyed it because my expectations were so low. The last four Tennant/RTD episodes were pretty dreary, and my only experience of Matt Smith was him capering and gurning around the Tardis at the end of the Christmas special.

Nah, I liked the whole episode. It was certainly, and by far, the best of the four specials. Though his final two parter certainly had it's moments. Basically any scene that featured The Cribbins.

The last 5 minutes was great the rest was idiotic.
