Doctor Who... Page 356

The Deadly Assassin is brilliant. I'm getting the TV Movie (Errr) and The Rescue / The Romans boxset for Christmas.

The TV Movie isn't that bad. There's a few good things about it such as great direction & Paul McGann's performance.

I thought McGann made a very good Doctor.

Ooh I'm glad you all rate The Deadly Assassin, I bought it for a friend of mine who is obsessed with Doctor Who but I was none-to-sure if it was good or bad. :D

Ooh, even Griff thinks it might be great. Clearly I am an awesome friend. Cool

I've only ever seen clips of it, but it's well known for being one of the strongest stories. I read the Target novelisation many moons ago and enjoyed that.

All 60s and 70s Doctor Who is great, but the McCoy years are even better than them!

Well said, Griff.

He was great; a pity we never saw his Doctor on screen again. Though I don't see why he couldn't turn up in a multi-Doc episode in future. It's not as though Eccleston would do it.

I didn't like the McGann movie very much, but I liked his Doctor. I would really like to see more of him, either in flashback or a multi-Doctor episode.

Apart from the silly Daleks-kill-master-and-give-remains-to-doctor info-dump stupidity at start (what the hell were new viewers supposed to make of all that too? Makes you realise what a great job RTD did with his pilot, introducing the show proper, not just ignoring the fact that millions of people would have no idea what was going on)I thought the TV movie kicks off quite well, and McCoy on the operating table is truly quite a freaky thing, but then the actual plot is just cack. And he saves everyone by going back in time, so they just magically come back to life. There's a lot of crap stuff in it, but it's a pretty enjoyable ride still, especially at this point where we now know it wasn't the shows final chance.

Loved the Tardis interior too, and Grace was a pretty good almost companion. But the main plus point is McGann's performance; he was a potentially great Doctor.

Ooh, that Tardis interior is probably one of the best, maybe even the best. It's so Jules Verne.

''Got married! That was a mistake. Good Queen Bess. And let me tell you, her nickname is no longer... *ahem*'' Laughing out loud

A reference to The Shakespeare Code and possibly Blink (''I'm rubbish at weddings - especially my own.'')

Definitely The Shakespeare Code Laughing out loud

To be fair, that production was a weird British-American hybrid in which they were trying to reinvent the show so it appealed to both a British and American audience. It was always doomed to fail.

That said, I'd quite like to see them remake Dr Who as an American show. Might work. Or might be turd. Who knows. Not me.

Although, oddly, new Who is on BBC America and going down quite well. With sci-fi fans, at least.

I'm really looking forward to it, and I'm really hoping it all adds up to a great send off for Tennant, but the ads they've run so far haven't done much for me. Either did the Ood scene they broadcast a while back. I get the feeling they must be holding a lot back.

The new series got launched properly, unlike the TV Movie which just seemed to make assumptions that everyone knew what Dr Who was, rather than treating it as something new for viewers to discover and learn about.
