Just don't do what they did with Sylvester McCoy; light brown coat = good dr, dark brown=sinister dr.

But then how else would we know?

Russ Abbott or Victor Meldrew?

Mmm. Interesting. Both a bit busy, unfortunately. Mr Abbott appears to be in the employ of the Summer Wine, and Mr Wilson has been nabbed to appear in next weeks Demons, wearing his Merlin wig. Otherwise, nice choices!

As I say though, I've never seen the guy in anything and am quite willing to trust in the judgement of Mr Moffat, even though I don't think he's got quite the unblemished record that others suppose him to have!

Blink? Library? Girl In The Fireplace? Gasmask kid one? All top notch Who!

Nice choices?! I hope that tongue is burrowed deep into a cheek Mr!

I maintain George Dubya and Sara Palin.

Come on that goofy grin, hilarious speech patterns and air of tragedy he would rock as the Dr.

I'm going to see if I can find a duff Moffatt script, but I doubt I will.

I'm not saying everything Moffatt's written is golden mind, but he has an unblemished record in regards to his work on Who. Of course, that does mean he's due a stinker.

Just wiki'd him and not one duffer in the whole bunch of Who stuff, hell he even wrote "The Curse of Fatal Death,"

and he did Press Gang, can't he be prime minister or something.

I thought the second part of the library one was unfocused, the fireplace had a poor ending. Blink I wasn't remotely terrified by, what with being an adult. Having said that, Empty Child remains the greatest piece of Doctor Who since its return, and a generally great bit of telly.

And yes, my tongue was embedded. I'd got so used to the idea of Paterson Joseph as the Doctor that young Matt Smith was a bit of a shock. That'll teach me to pay any attention to anything I see on t'web. But I'm quite willing to go along with him, though. I certainly shall not be judging him either based purely on his age or for that matter, before he's actually done an episode.

Really? Just because of the actor chosen; who most I imagine have no real prior knowledge of? Is everyone forgetting that the man behind his casting and the head writer for next series is Moffatt, someone who has done no wrong so far regarding new Who? I would have preferred an older chap, but I'm willing to give Moffatt the benefit of the doubt, because he hasn't let the show down yet.

I think, Matthew, you're getting excitement a bit mixed up with something more solid. A final decision, perhaps.

zooo doesn't know the guy. She didn't think he came across particularly well in his interview bit on the show. Nor does she think he really looks the part. Therefore, she is quite understandably less excited than she would be if the Doctor was someone she was familiar with already, and liked the style of. She's not ruled him out definitively or stated that he will be complete shit, just said that she doesn't like what she's seen so far, and thus isn't as enthusiastic as previously.

As far as I can see, that's about as "benefit of the doubt" as one can get. Apprehensive, but not damning until there is any evidence.

Which all seems entirely reasonable to me, no matter who cast him.

:)

:D

And just to add, because otherwise it'll be picked at pathetically, by "the part", I meant "like any incarnation of the Doctor she can currently imagine or envisage".

Well thanks for answering on her behalf, most chivelrous! I don't think what I put was anything but a reasonable response, but I shall be aware from now on that you are at Zooos feet-ready to snap!! :D

pathetically,

:) :)

Well Aaron was with me when I found out, so he heard all my babbling about the matter first hand. :)

Anyway, yes. I'm totally hoping I'll end up liking him as the Doctor, I don't want to stop enjoying a show I love.

It's not that he's 26, it's that he looks 14. I can't see it working, but I hope it does. I agree that the fact that Super-Moffat chose him is a thing in his favour.

To be fair he wasn't acting like a 14 year old in the clips they showed of him.
He'll be alright zooo, you'll see! :)

:O

Has anyone considered that he may be a place holder?

They announce that matey boy Smith is the new doctor, thus taking all the heat and press speculation off them.

Mr Smith starts filming as expected, then in the new season Mr Smith appears in one or two episodes, his callow youth and inexperience gets him killled and wham, bam, thank you mam we get a new doctor... we get the drama and the one we expect and the one they wanted all along...
