Doctor Who... Page 197

Give me a 2008 version like that; that frightens kids so they hide under the table (we really did do that, truly) and gives them nightmares and genuinely upsets parents.

That's Dr Who.

Several episodes of the new Who have done that to kids.
(And me.)

If the new series had been up to me, I definitely would have gone darker and more frightening, but then I very much doubt it would have been the big family hit it has been; they chose the right way to go really to make it a success and give it the audience size it needs to justify its existence. Some grown ups may grumble, but new who is what it has to be I think.

True. The worst episode of Doctor Who is still infinitely better than the greatest episode of Emmerdale.

Hang on what about that episode where absolutely NOTHING happens except Marlon and Paddy get pissed in the pub?

Moffatt's dropped some hints he might be going a bit more down the scary route when he takes over. Fingers crossed.

Yes!
I am quite excited. But it's going to be such a long wait...

But worth it, I think a bit of time between them is good so he can re-invent certain aspects of the show. Make it his own. As he does in his own episodes mnd.

I suppose.

The more time passes though, the more likely it seems that he's going to lose/get rid of David. :(

Which is so depressing I may top myself.

Tennant is extra strong remember.

Kids are soft these days the old Dr Who was very violent, very violent.

People killed every episode, companions killed, the Master having an extraspecially nasty weapon.

Hartnell had 2 compnaions killed in the same episode.

I think he will, but he has also said that he's not suddenly going to abandon what RTD has developed; that there will be a range of tones and styles like there is currently. So yes, you'll get some darker ones, but you'll also still get the comic ones, etc. every episode isn't going to be like what weve come to expect from Moffats own stories. He said his have been like they are because that's what RTD wanted and expected of him; he would do the scary, somone else epic, someone else comic, and now he's in charge, he himself will tackle other styles of episodes.

What is this? I am gone 2 weeks and a whole Dr Who conversation happens without me. Shame on you guys.

Sergeant Benton and the Brigadeir were ace.

I love them.

if more of the Troughton era survived, his reputation would be higher. The few Troughton stories I've seen were magnificent.

Yes. I'd love to see the complete Yeti serials, Power of The Daleks and I'm sure there's more.

Fair enough and you're probably right, but a sad reflection on modern telly if you are. :(

Bloody PC generation, no wonder I hate you lot! Bring back hanging, flogging and dangerous telly.. ;)

The Eccleston Dr was darker than the DT one, best to check those out Frankie if you prefer that kinda Doctor.

Mmm ta for that. I will. :)

Start off with 'The Empty Child'...
