The Light bulb

scene - int - day - doctor's surgery

Dr X is behind a desk scribbling some notes. There is a knock on the door.

dr x

Come in.

man

Hello Sir.

DR X

Just call me Dr X

MAN

I have swallowed a light bulb

DR X

What?

MAN

I'm here because I swallowed a light bulb.

DR X

How did it happen?

MAN

I thought it was an apple and swallowed it by accident.

DR X

Do you normally swallow your apples whole.

MAN

Is that relevant?

DR X

I would have thought so yes.

MAN

I swallow all fruit whole.

DR X

Pineapples?

MAN

Except for pinapples.

DR X

Melons?

MAN

I swallow all fruit whole up to the size of a grapefruit.

DR X

Well just step behind the X-ray screen and we'll take a look.

The man steps on to a platform that shows his full body skeleton on a screen.

DR X

Hmmmm, it seems that the light bulb has made it down the esophagus, through the stomach, through the small and large intestine and has become lodged in the anal cavity. Are you sure you swallowed the light bulb?

MAN

Well it's there isn't it!

I really liked this idea and the way that you did it but felt the punchline was rather weak.
A very nice idea, though.

as above.. i think a better punchline would be..

it was swallowed by my ass.. whole.

Yes it is maybe a bit too subtle. It is meant to be that the Doc is obviously implying that he shoved it up the trademan's but for the man he did swallow it as he suggested and he doesn't understand why the doc is asking him if he swallowed it if he can clearly see it on the screen.

But Nigel, I agree yours is much better.

Subtle? I could see it coming right from the start. Unlike the patient of course.

No I don't mean the scenario is subtle, I meant the punch line is prob. a bit too subtle. The point is meant to be that the patient can't understand why the Dr has asked him if he has swallowed a light bulb when that is what he did and the Dr can clearly see the light bulb there on the x-ray.

I suppose if I have to explain things at such length it hasn't worked eh?? :)

Anyway I only wrote these two sketches quickly as I was trying out my new free script writing software. Search for Celtx on google it seems really good and IMO is much better than macro ones that feed into microsoft word.
