I just watched the first part of the new BBC drama thingumy, and really enjoyed it. I've always been pretty fascinated with London, particularly that kind of Victorian era, so quite "up my street".
Yes, there were a couple of annoyingly token ethnics, and I wasn't quiiite sure about Michelle Gomez (acting was fine, but God only knows what accent it was meant to be), but not bad, not bad at all. Definitely will be tuning in tomorrow. 
Shit - OI didn't realise Michelle was in it.
I decided not to watch it because it's on for 4 nights running and sunday and I don't know if I'll be in to watch it. Hopefully not.
I'll PVR it if I'm not in. Very enjoyable. Also featured Rob Brydon, Julian Rhind-Tutt, Gregor Fisher, and Timothy Spall.
Even if Oliver's hair was FAR too clean and tidy to be believable...

It was fairly genial christmas television, though I can't imagine Charles Dickens chuckling over a fart-related witticism.

Wow. Oliver Twist. Again. Didnt they have a version on TV with Robert lindsey only a couple of years ago? And then since that there was the polanski film version. And coming soon-a new version of sense and sensibility! Wooooo! Because thats what were all crying out for, isnt it? It really is annoying when you get these endless new versions of the same material, especially when theres already been whats considered to be a pretty definitive version so recently. Give the source material a chance to rest before doing it again! Are there no other old books that could be done? Im pretty sure Dickens himself has other published works, why not give one of them a poke and give Twists tired old bones a rest? Thats what I think anyway, but then, apparently, about 8 million people who watched it disagree!

Good point. I'd like to see A Christmas Carol get a proper BBC dramatisation. There's not been one that I'm aware of. And if there has, I certainly haven't seen it.

It was okay, but as Matthew said, it's wholly unnecessary. I couldn't stand the little kid who played the Artful Dodger; even for a child his performance was just painful, and while I have great respect for Timothy Spall, I thought that he was badly miscast as Fagin - looking less Jewish than Laurence Olivier in Boys From Brazil.
