Audition

A YOUNG WOMAN GOES TO AUDITION FOR A TV TALENT SHOW, AFTER PERFORMING HER SONG, SHE STANDS BEFORE THE JUDGES.

JUDGE 1: Hmm! Interesting, don't think it's quite what we're looking for though.

GIRL: I can do better...honest!

JUDGE 1: Comments anyone?

JUDGE 2: It was ok, but not for me, sorry.

GIRL: Oh please, i really want this, please, please put me through.

JUDGE: The other two are right love, it's not the kind of thing we want.

GIRL: Was it the wrong choice of song?

JUDGE 1: No!

GIRL: Was it the clothes?

JUDGE 1: No the clothes were fine.

GIRL: What then?

JUDGE 2: It's the wrong show, this is strictly come dancing, the x-factors next door.

I like the punchline, but it's the only funny line in the sketch. Is there a way to make the rest of it funny? Could you make every other line a little gag which leads towards the end?

Also, why would the judge ask for comments? Presumably he knows she's on the wrong show?

I didn't see the end line coming, but I didn't find it riproaringly funny and I think that TV talent show sketches have been done to death somewhat.

Hi Ray

It's a very quick sketch, probably linking two other sketches in a fast-paced, non-audience sketch show. I'd shorten it to get to the point quicker. If I may be as so bold to edit:

A YOUNG WOMAN STANDS BEFORE THE JUDGES.

JUDGE 1: Hmm! Interesting, don't think it's quite what we're looking for though.

GIRL: Wrong choice of song?

JUDGE 1: No!

GIRL: Wrong image?

JUDGE 1: Nope.

GIRL: What then?

JUDGE 1: Wrong show. This is strictly come dancing, the x-factors next door.

END

As mentioned above, you've only got one joke in there, so get there as quickly as possible.

Hope this helps

Dan

It's the begging aspect i was trying to get across, these people can't take no for an answer, watching them beg is better that their singing :P

How about Beg Factor then...

A begger refused money on the street gets up and follows the punter asking for feedback just like in your sketch.

Or... how about Sharon, Louise and Simon deciding on whether or not to give cash to a begger by weighing up his performance as a begger.

Actually that second one has got Tittybangbang all over it.

I feel dirty...

I did a Tramp Idol sketch when Pop Idol first came out (must did it out, realise it was truly awful then hope everyone forgets I mentioned it by changing the subject to Castanets).

Now that i like, i can see that. But you should write it.
