I think though that someone should invent a grilling machine specially for sausages, so you can do all sides at once and cook them equally.

I tend to buy the Walls microwave sausages. Very quick, very easy, and nicely evenly done. Once they're cooked, just stick them in the pan along with the bacon etc for a few minutes so they pick up a bit of that smoked flavour. Easy.
