I have a short story I can envisage as a full length Disney/Pixar-style musical animation but no idea how to go about pitching this sort of thing (yet). I'm assuming a pitch would be better received WITH a completed screenplay rather than just the story. I've got ideas for songs too so would they be included? Anyone a dab hand at this? Cheers.
Film idea
Can't help but good luck with it mate!
Gavin is our resident 3D animator, I'm sure he knows a thing or two.
And Croydesponger, a question like this is best suited for the Writers Discussion forum.
Cheers.
Ah, so 'help and feedback' is a bit like customer service in any given retail outlet is it? (wasn't being sarcastic there Leevil - 'preciate the comment )
Lee's right Gavin has some ideas on animation.
But as for pitching it to someone like Disney/Pixar, good luck, Pixar are especially "internal". They have their own writers and basically they don't need nor want other people ideas (yes that sewer rat movie was in conjunction with the Wallace and Gromit guys) but besides that, you have a better chance of platting my urine.
Sorry if I burst a bubble.
You say a Disney/Pixar style thing and it would be good to beat them at their own game.
Good luck.
I would suggest you do a synopsis, list characters and maybe storyboard a couple of scenes.
But then what do I know?
Sadly you've got very little chance.
The truth is, you have to pay your dues in any career. Your idea could be brilliant, but no one will be interested because you're not part of Pixar or you're not Jon Vitti.
Thanks guys
Thing is - I'm not particularly expecting the big boys to ask me to play. (Though 'hellooo!' if they are reading) There are loads of other film makers out there looking for story lines. I'm asking how best to present it regardless of what happens to it. And btw I'll certainly take 'very little chance' as a massive step up on none whatsoever while it sits in the drawer!
Hey Dude!
I heard my name being mentioned.
Pixar/Disney are closed doors in my opinion they say so on their websites and I pitched a few things to Pixar few years ago and they very politely said mmmm we get everything from our in house writers. The reason is that if you get a team that works well together there is little advantage bringing in an unknown entity to give them ideas.
Aardman are all in house but if you want them to sit up and take notice enter the Bristol animation festival. It's called encounters now. Thats were all the big wigs go and I met and pitched to some guys from Cartoon Network a few years ago very positive feedback I got but as with things they sometimes never manifest.
I am setting up a small animation company to deal with my animated comedy so maybe we could chat about your idea? maybe something we could look at in the future? No promises though.
but I'm digressing sorry.
You need your characters made up, your trying to sell a visual medium I wouldnt touch a project in which the creator hasnt put enough thought in to atleast sketch his characters. I won't use them probably but there is that base there.
Other then that write a scene go to some 3d animation boards and make it up, Animation is a very clicky sorta medium and very expensive no one wants to spend out on a fly by night.
Hope this is helpful if you want any more info gimmie a PM.
My guess is you have a long shot but pick the best scene to showcase the whole project and try to get that made, or at least animated in basic form, so that you have something to sell.
