The Television Writers Strike

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/entertainment/7078335.stm

I'm sure most of you have heard about the US TV writers going on strike, meaning lots of sitcoms, chat-shows, dramas etc will be taken off air and replaced with re-runs and reality tv. Everyone who is a part of the Writers Guild is on the strike.

But this means the US has no TV shows, I wonder if we could pitch them a script? I for one aren't part of no Writers Guild. ;)

No - we're comedy writers.

You don't get me I'm part of the bunion.. ;)

If you tried you'd be blacklisted. The best way's to get a show made over here, then sell it to them when they have nothing else to broadcast.

It was a joke by the way. Hence the winking smiley. :)

This is really going to mess up a lot of shows though, hope it doesn't go on too long because it could effect Season 4 of Lost and we've been waiting long enough as it is.

Well, that depends on whether you like Lost of not! ;)

American writers (and particularly Hollywood writers) being on strike is worrying me not one jot.

And if they get hungry, they can eat Big Mac's!

No, seriously, you'll be blacklisted. And your knob chopped off. Then where would you be eh? Eh? No answer, didn't think so...

The Writers Guild only has themselves to blame. When the formed they signed away their rights to the studios now they want them back >_<

Surely theu could go to series 7 of Lost and they'd still be on that bloody island.

After series 7, they'll call it 'Found'

Royalties are a writers pension, so it's good to see them fighting for DVD sales, internet etc. Hopefully the result'll filter down to less well paid writers.

I've just been reading about the strike. It seems that the Producers aren't valuing the contribution of writers, or at least not to the extent that The Writers Guild thinks it should.

I am not sure that writers always help themselves though with respect to getting the right pay for the job as many of them (us) are prepared to work for free to get our work seen/heard. Almost like being a writer is some kind of 'wonderful priveledge' and being paid for it (the work that we do) is some kind of dream come true.

If you get a job as an Engineer, you don't think it's 'a dream come true' when you get paid for your work!

True Frankie, but new enginners can get qualifications that prove they're worth the money. New writers can't.

OK let's not set our sights quite as high as Engineer, what about ASDA Checkout Op... they don't think it's a 'dream come true' when ASDA pay them at the end of the week for their work!

New writers are far too 'beholden' to the Industry.. <doffs cap to passing Producer>

Whistling nnocently (gosh, the Producer actually SPOKE to ME.. he said, "get out of my way please, I'm in a hurry.." gee, ain't he just wunnerful.. gush.. gush.. a Producer SPOKE to me.. oh, I'm all sticky..)

I have a cartoon I drew about the relationship between Producer & Writer but unfortunately can't insert it here... and it's not online...

Oh well, <bends over> Mr Producer, sir.. come back!!!
