Yes, both of those shows were ended by their creators, not cancelled. (Although Peep Show was cancelled and then recommissioned many series prior.)
The Inbetweeners was also far more popular, especially after its box office smash first film.

The Inbetweeners kept up a very high level over the three series and also both films but yeah, all good things must come to an end and all that... Imagine (It's easy if you try. It isn't hard to do) it'd gone on for years chartering their 'progess' into middle Age... Actually, don't.
Let's be honest here after the 1st four series peep show got really patchy and series 5 to 9 all had weak episodes that are not worth watching again like the one where they were locked/stuck in a hall way.The first series does have that timeless magic to it and I have watched episode 3 called on the pull countless times now.I wish flora newbigin had been asked back for the last series. Not sure if grown up goth Valerie would have worked , she was the best 1 time character of the whole series apparently she works in the office of a theatre now planning and making stage programs.
Off topic really, but Peep Show was frequently brilliant to the end. The later shows only suffer in comparison to the early series because those are amongst the very best comedy ever produced.
It's now enjoying a new lease of life on Netflix while Inbetweeners, as mentioned, is ageing badly.
That said, both series are very different (leaving aside the fact Simon Bird seems to have modelled his performance on David Mitchell!) and it's perfectly possible to enjoy both.
Peep Show did indeed maintain a very high standard over it's nine series, and is probably one of this countries finest sitcoms ever.
Will back ever be back , there has been no word of it being commissioned again. The only way to get series 2 of back on dvd is £20 on import via eBay or Amazon.
Quote: tonecapone @ 6th September 2024, 10:05 AMThe best sitcom of this century that didn't really happen but I like to think it did in a Walter Mitty way is When The Wwhistle Blows
I know this will never happen, but I'd've loved a full mini-episode of When The Whistle Blows, like those Comic Relief skits.
Will in The Inbetweeners is exactly like me at that age. The only difference is that he at least tries to have a life.
I think the original question will soon become irrelevant because in the next ten years we'll probably be able to use AI to create the sort of sitcoms each of us want (especially if you want broad comedy that is fairly easy to write and suited to artificial intelligence algorithims). So if you want to create 600 episodes of When The Whistle Blows, or an infinite number of Love thy Neighbour's, you'll probably be able to.
Not the same.

Apart, of course, from Hancock's Half Hour, Dad's Army, Are You Being Served, Hi-de-Hi, Fawlty Towers, Father Ted, Only Fools & Horses, One Foot in the Grave, Steptoe & Son, Ever Decreasing Circles, Happy Ever After/Terry & June... I could go on.
You forgot Up The Elephant And Round The Castle.

Perry & Croft's secret is finally out.

You do tend to, Billy.
I wouldn't disagree with any of those sitcoms you mentioned (except for Are You Being Served, Happy Ever After/Terry & June ), but I mentioned Peep show because it had been referenced along with The Inbetweeners.

Indeed. It's probably my age but I'm not into Al. The last Beatles song was awesome but there was something seriously creepy about the vid and once was enough for me.
