After the recent discussion about Douglas is Cancelled changing from comedy to drama halfway I'd just like to say genuine comedy drama is my favourite type of TV.
Like Billy mentioned this includes Doc Martin and Minder but I'd also like to add Auf Weidersehn Pet and to a lesser extent Cold Feet. Maybe this could also include light dramas such as Death in Paradise and Midsummer Murders.
Any other suggestions?

I have five of the above on DVD and they are all excellent viewing still. It's something we Brits do extremely well, just like we used to do with sitcom. sigh

Personally, as a bit of a self taught expert on la cosa nostra, the funniest thing about the Sopranos is how completely unrealistic it is!

I think David Chase said they exaggerated the number of mob related deaths to make the dramatic stakes higher. But the characters themselves were petty and nasty and motivated by greed, which I suspect is a pretty accurate description of the real mafia.

Try Succession. It was created by a Brit and stars a Brit in one of the main roles.
