1985..................I love a good bang, which is all I get now, once a year - from 2p, bloody hell, that's expensive!
I was amazed in Bob Mortimer's 'I set the house on fire' story on WILTY that none of the others remembered Standard Fireworks
Ah yes, Bob's absolutely hysterical story of how he burnt his parents house down 😆, and yes, Standard fireworks I remember we always looked on as the "Rolls Royce" of fireworks - there's always seemed to be better made, and the one that still sticks in my mind is the red banger, which came in two sizes - loud and F****** Hell!! You NEVER held on to it, as it looked as though it could blow at least two fingers off your hand!
Brocks were always second best to me. I used to put the Standard bangers inside an old Airfix kit (poke the cockpit cover off) light it and then retire to a safe distance
Even threaded a wire from my bedroom window down to the garden through the nose and tail turrets. Light the banger and let it go so it hopefully blew halfway down.
To hell with H&S - Cool 😎 Kids these days miss all the fun of blowing things up unsupervised.

1934..................and I can remember, years later in a TV ad. "Bing Crosby" singing "Keep going well, you can be sure of Shell" - perhaps this was the start of that campaign catchphrase.
