With that date, I was expecting a black monolith.

No, we had ones like that, then. I think you need to go back to the early 90s for that type.

Never seen them before - do you have a year?

And they look like good filling pullers! ?

Well spotted - I wondered who would notice that. ?

Yes, they were around in the 60s and early 70s. My sister & I used to be given a pack each year. She still hankers after them to this day. Sometimes they were packaged in a cardboard train rather than just a boring oblong box! And they weren't particularly hard toffee. Not quite as runny as today's caramel egg but not as chewy as, say, a Rolo.

Sounds nice, and I think their demise might have something to do with Nestle's buying them out - they usually finish up discontinuing lines and to hell with the long standing customers.
I'm still bitter to this day with Cadburys, when they bought out Frys and discontinued their far superior Frys cream egg, because presumably to stop the competition with their own Crème Egg - bastards!

I'm still bitter to this day

Blimey, time to move on I think.

Nope, I want my Fry's Cream Egg! ?

Macintosh used to do toffee mallow eggs too.

Oh, don't remember them either, but we were a poor family, so Easter treats were beyond our means. ?

That lovely florid type face is screaming early mid 70s to me, although the price may be a better indicator. Bang in my sweety eating days but alas I never came across these either.

While we're on chocolate, from 1955
