The only reason I watched this, is because it had a 27year old Jack Hawkins, just about recognisable with clipped upper English voice, a 45-year-old, fairly slim Margaret Rutherford with her distinctive chin and voice, 52-year-old Gordon Harker, who I've always been a fan of and 34-year Ronald Shiner (the "comedian") who I've never been a fan of.
Everyone else I didn't know, or had seen once before in some odd film.
Fortunately, it wasn't set on a canal barge, which the film "Painted Boats" was, which I stood only 10 minutes of.
The love interest was a to me a cardboard unattractive girl (the "Beauty" presumably) called Judy Gunn, in what appears to be her last film, even in 1937. So, a career of only 4 years! But I'm not surprised.
Apart from Gordon Harker, everyone else talked with terribly, terribly clipped voices, don't yer know, and the film went on far too long. Harker was brilliant though with his sardonic take on everything. His chatting up of the pub landlord's wife (a battle-axe) was a hilarious.
