Jesus Herc, this is really nasty and uncalled for. It comes across as utterly vicious and does you no credit at all. I strongly suggest you re-read yourself before posting in future.

I thought I was stating a fact.

I thought I was stating a fact.

If someone is factually incorrect, by all means set the record straight. Politely.

"Actually..." rather than "you know nothing".

It's really not a difficult distinction to make.

This applies to many people of late: re-read your posts before saving them. Have you sniped at someone? Have you been courteous? Did X really need to be said?

I think in my early drinking days Pints went from about £1.30 to £1.50
Definitely change from a fiver for a round if you only had only had two friends

If it's your round you' ll have more than two friends.

I can remember getting change from 2 shillings for a pint.
Double Diamond was 2/6d
And if Watneys Red Barrel was on tap I'd buy a Guinness.

And if he made his replies politely and clear what/who he is having a go at, instead of saying afterwards something like "it wasn't aimed at you", it wouldn't then elicit an upset reply. Or, perhaps that is deliberate on his part, to be antagonistic.

Whatever, I think it'll make sense if I ignore all his future posts and/or replies to my posts for peace of mind and forum calmness, but let me say this in parting - the blame shouldn't be all laid on my doorstep.

My first pint cost 22p - that was in 1975 ( I was well underage, as was everyone else in the pub).
A pound note meant you could go out with 4 mates - get a round each and have a small chips on the way back.
I also remember when the 'designated driver' was the person who's turn it was to drive home roaring drunk.

I'm a disinterested third party with no skin in the game, but from my perspective I'd certainly place it somewhere in the vicinity of your front door. No offense intended, but you sometimes come across as angry and even hostile. Things are more enjoyable when disagreements are settled - or at least discussed - politely.

Tolly Cobbold was an East Anglian brewery and didn't one or the other have big connections with Ipswich Town?

I was stopped by the police at 2am blind drunk.
There were four of us in the car. Me and my mate were taking two young ladies home.
There was a roadblock and every car was being stopped.

They did not care about being drunk, the Yorkshire ripper had been at large too long and every driver and passenger was questioned. They searched my boot and found a hammer.

You'd think they'd found the ark of the covenant. At that time no one knew he used a hammer to kill and the cops were looking for a car with a hammer in it.
I had half the force around me roughing me up and firing questions.
Luckily, it was the wrong sort of hammer and they saw it was part of my toolkit.
I was allowed to go, still drunk but a bit more sober after that.

My first week's wages were £5 12 10d. and I still think of Tesco's own brand bread being 11 bob a loaf.

At Rolls-Royce we were allowed to buy calculators at discount prices and the cost was taken weekly out of our wages, that's how expensive they were. I had a Sinclair with a red LED display. If you put an eight digit number in and then asked it to divide by zero the display went berserk as it tried to work it out

Not long back I taught my daughter-in-law (late twenties) how to add and subtract prices in LSD. Fair play to her she eventually got it but she now has new respect for us oldies.

Crikey!

Well, Tollemache was a Suffolk brewery and Cobbold an Ipswich one - Tolly bought out Cobbold in the mid 1950s.

Yes, the club was owned by the Cobbold family for many years, and one of the stands is still known as the Cobbold stand.

I still have a wage slip of when I worked at USAF Bentwaters for £4 10s per week in 1963. How the hell we had a night out at the weekend in the early 60s is baffling to me now, but I suppose with beer at about 1/6d (7½p) it does look feasible.

Is that because like the team it was Cobbold together?
