Something In The City (1950)

Richard Hearne - Mr Pastry. What can I say, but thought I would give it a look and stuck with it to see if it got any better, BUT it didn't.

It was fine when Hearne was playing himself, but he was leading a double life in this, and you know who the other "person" was - Yes, that seriously unfunny Pastry. When I was a kid, I thought he was hilarious, but adult humour? No way!! I can see now he bases Pastry on Chaplin, but falls down badly (literal pun) in every way. Contrived and silly slapstick not in the least humorous. And the plot had many holes in it. For example, (as with Clark Kent/Superman) how come no one, not even his wife and daughter realise that Hearne and his alter ego Pastry are the same person - it's bloody obvious they are!!

I was glad when the film was over.

The only saving grace was there were loads of brilliant scenes of in and around London............ AND Dora Bryan as again a dotty greasy spoon waitress - now she was funny but sadly only on the screen for about 5 minutes.
