British Comedy Guide

I'm Mary.

As David Essex would say : "Lovely to be here". My name (for those too dense to read a thread title before clicking on it) is Mary. I'm rather hirsuite. Like Rudolf, You might even say it grows, even if his glows.

In no particular, but semi chronological order, I like :

Saxondale (Coogan's best work)
Hyperspace
Black Books
Extras
Sunnyside Farm
The New Statesman
Father Ted
Filthy, Rich & Catflap
Hancock
The IT Crowd
Rising Damp
The Office
The Young Ones
Bottom

Nearly everything else is crap, with two exceptions : firstly, the sitcoms that my brain has temporarily forgotten, and secondly the following, which are beneath contempt and are receiving of my particular (and rather disturbing)passionately felt hatred :

Absolutely Fabulous
Only Fools & Horses
Bread
The Royle Family
The Good Life
Porridge
My Hero
The Brittas Empire
Last of the Summer Wine
The Liver Birds
When the Boat Comes In
Keeping Up Appearances

....and, new in this week...

*****************
Jam & Jerusalem
*****************

What a celebrity mutual wank fest that is.

Oh, and before I forget (where's my f**king manners?!) "HELLO!"

Porridge?! :O

...But hello anyway.

And then there's....Only Fools and Horses, The Good Life, Ad Fab and The Royle Family. Saying that they're not your cup of tea is one thing but claiming that these classics are beneath contempt?!? Bizarre.

Sunnyside Farm...now that was beneath contempt.

I can sort of understand why people hate OFAH, after having it rammed down their throats for the past 25 years or so, but yes, "contempt" is a bit strong!

:S

Hmmm..interesting mix Mary.

Don't agree with all of your choices, but then it would be rather dull if we all liked same thing. Pleased Ab Fab is there. Yes, I know loads of people liked it but I never did. Jennifer Saunders shouting a lot is not my idea of comedy. Couldn't stand Brittas either, even though my whole family loved it.

What the hell is Sunnyside Farm? Really don't remember that.

Lots of things to like and dislike on your list,,unfortunately we are only allowed to see only a few of the older ones in the States,,Only Fools and Horses..hum..I look at actors abilities and not just the story line,,There is much to be said of a great actor that can be fat, homely, old but just a plain joy to see in the States,,You are blessed with a lot of actors over there that are using their talent and not just looks and youth to be great,,Wish that were dtrue on this side of the pond,,Valentine,..your use of proper English is deplorable//////

Mary..are you dense or just stupid, How do you think ledgends are born.

Yeah,mary,
Totally agree with you on the list of abominable crap that you so much detest.
Only thing I dont agree with is porridge which was quite well crafted-and you forgot the wonderful Nearest and Dearest.
You`ll just have to wait until mine get produced-wont be long now.
Maybe before Jesus comes back.
As someone once famously said: this industry attracts more conmen than a double glazing saleman convention.
Sill, onward and up `em.
What amazes me is how precious these luvvy types think they are.
I wont go into details as i dont want to disavow the guy as he is pitching for me-but he does seem to think he has exclusive rights to all our work.
My fault for telling him i would filter all my gear thru him.
Know any decent agents-(do you know any decent anyones).
Ant of the Slaggies seems to be about the most balanced. And the Film Industry of wales are going to read one of our film scripts.
it only tok 3 years to get it off the ground, except that it isnt even off the ground yet.Nil desperandum illegitimum,

steve voyce Wave Lovey

any thing with Ronnie Barker is amazing, he is my hero, porridge was pure class, quick moving, funny, well acted, and genuinly hilarious, open all hours was the same, apart from it wasn't as fast paced, i agree with Mr Voyce and co

Sign me up!

And Sunnyside Farm is meant to be pretty bad, although had quite a good cast. I managed to get my hands on some of it, but have never actually watched.

Hilarious. Had to pop back to Savile Row for a re - tailoring after that reading that colossal gaffe, you dead light bulb! Beacons like you shine like black holes. To everyone else, thanks for the warm welcome :)

Some of the comments forced me to think about Porridge once again, and I've decided its time for a re appraisal...

... I've re appraised it, and it still stinks! ;)

*shakes head in dismay*

Some people are just beyond help!
