Am I out of my vulcan mind or is this funny?
Jaws snatched from the victory of defeat
Haha that was funny. Although...if i'm being picky (from a writing perspective) Coming up with your own phrase/wording when he takes the shark would have been better-er. Simpsons pretty much own that phrase.
Play the game, that was funny!
Yeah funny man...maybe you could do the same with Bush, or better still, give him the shark, i'd pay to see that.
Thanks, chaps.
I wasn't really thinking of The Simpsons owning the word "Yoink" when I wrote that, I just figured it as an appropriate Americanism. Searching online I see that you may be right - "Yoink" does seem to be pretty much Simpsons property.
I wonder how many other words in common usage originated solely from sit-coms. I seem to remember hearing that "yada-yada" was an invention of a Seinfeld writer.
That was very funny, and completely unexpected.
Good stuff, David. Don't worry about Yoinks. Isn't it just a variant on Yikes anyway?
Yadda wasn't a Seinfield invention. I always thought it was taken from Yiddish or American Jewish origins. But Lenny Bruce aparently used it too.
Hi David, I liked this and obviously wasn't expecting the ending. The other thing I wasn't execting was to be watching the delightful Darcey Bussell dance the Rose Adage. I sat through six minutes waiting for a funny end.... I'm new to YouTube and was looking for more of your work. Come back analogue world!!
I suppose I'm a bit of a Simpsons nerd which is why it stood out for me. That and I've never heard it used on another TV show. It's the same as Doh!!! I always want to make my characters say Doh!!!
I reckon Scrubs probably has a few too. The look up when we hear JD's thoughts is probably one of theirs(?)
It's a very funny video though, if it gets noticed by an editor it's easily good enough to get featured. Fingers crossed!
Slag A - That's interesting - I was convinced yadda yadda was Seinfeld. You live and learn. Then typically forget in a monumentally misjudged beano to Rhyl.
Mannikin - Ignore that imposter, Darcy - she's been biting my style for too long now.
Shoepie - Ahh, but Simpsons didn't invent "Doh!" only shortened it. And the 'looking up for a flashback' trick is as an ancient tool as hackneyed as the harp that so often accompanies it
