How to come up with good titles for your work Page 2

Coincidentally, I was on another forum earlier this week, on which people were arguing over Castro. One guy was a Cuban American, who mentioned how Castro and Che Guevarra had ordered the majority of his family to be killed, when he was a baby. It was eye-opening stuff.

Intiendo amiga, era una broma.

What about calling it 'Castro's' and making that the name of the bar?

That's a fricking good idea. It would compliment the anti-capitalist subtext of the plot. Thing is I wanted to leave the name of the bar a mystery.

Ok, what about a character calling himself Castro and it's named after him. Mind you, it could start sounding a bit like that sitcom from the 70's that I can't quite remember where Wolfie Smith was promoting the revolution etc. What was that called. 'Spect your too young and I'm showing me age!

Hey, that was Citizen Smith! I used to like that.

How about Big Shots?

I think it might work as it's set in a bar and there's a gratuitous use of guns and comedy machismo?

Or even Big Shotz (make it a bit quirkier) or is that just pathetic?

I used to like it, too
Big Shots works. If I were you and you like the title then keep it for now. I'm sure that we will all tell you if we think of something better.
To Absinth friends - sorry!!

OK I used the Google monster and found there's already a show called Big Shots in the US and it's fairly new.

Don't know how these things work but I'm assuming it doesn't bode well for my Big Shots.

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated (when you al wake up of course)!

I always wanted to write a sit-com called 'Naked Jane'. You just know that's going to be good telly.

Big shots is v. good - what a shame it's in use.
Empty Barrels (?!)

what about - Closing Time - You can set the sitcom against Tom Wait's stupendous album of the same name.

Speaking of Castro (shameless plug)

You can use names already in existence but it generally isn't a good idea as it confuses people.

Best thing to do is read the finished piece through and jot down words in the text that epitomise the mood, tone, feel. Then brainstorm more words or phrases. See if rearranging your faves on the list give a new twist or a phrase that really appeals.

I hate these one word titles. Spaced. Ideal. Sound. Let's have something a bit more imaginative and colourful.

How about a descriptive title harcorr..

"tossers on the piss ...again"

Not that title, but something inviting that describes the action in the show.. ;)

Hatx

I am a great lover of titles so would like to see you pick a good 'un!!!

The trouble is you never know what to believe ...even when you see the "evidence" because evidence can be manufactured to prove whatever "truth" you want to promote...

The old adage springs to mind "...believe nothing of what you hear and only half what you see..."

For the 21st Century we should maybe update that to read "...and nothing of what you see..."

A sadder but wiser girl, for me..*

Hattie xxx

*This is a quote from the musical "The Music Man" and is not what I am. I am of course a bloke pretending to be Hattie, for our newer readers.. ;) of course, I'm offering no evidence, and even if I was, who knows? ;)

It's especially difficult to seperate fact and fiction when studying a totalitarian state. To be fair their cigar harvest seems to be as bountiful as ever.

*Reads Frankie's adage and promptly deafens himself and gouges out one eye.*

That should make things clearer.
