One of those films I have seen in incomplete parts a couple of times in the past in a blurry, beery haze on a Sunday afternoon whilst lying on the settee, drifting off and not seeing the end, so this time in my now state of sobriety, managed to watch it all from beginning to end, and it was most enjoyable.
Once you get over the heavily saturated colour, which is a flaw of some 1950s British films you can enjoy the wonderful acting of all concerned, along with Edith Evan's now famous treatment of "A handbag!?"
Fellow actors being Michael Redgrave, Michael Denison, Joan Greenwood, Dorothy Tutin, Margaret Rutherford, Richard Wattis, and not forgetting the wonderful Miles Malleson in his "normal" role as the vicar.
Most of the budget must have gone on the frocks!
Good film.
