Idol On Parade (1959)

Not a big fan of Anthony Newley who was the star of the title - think of Elvis in GI Blues, come down many rungs from there and that's the film basically, which was made funny and very enjoyable by Lionel Jeffries who was superb, and you would think "Ah yes, he would be the RSM", but no that part was taken by the American actor William Bendix, who was good, with his Irish accent to cover his American one. I suppose he was in the film to sell it to the Yanks, so it's a wonder they didn't change the title...................

Throw in David Lodge, Sidney James, Dilys Laye, Harry Fowler and a surprisingly good Bernie Winters, and you have the makings of a half decent comedy film.

Worth a watch.

The goof pointed out in the IMDb was "The convertible that Sid James is driving changes from a Ford Consul to a Zephyr and back to a Consul during the escape from the theatre" was noticeable, with me being keen on this type of car - surely someone noticed this, so presumably they did and couldn't afford to correct it in post-production.
