What can I say? I know what I like, I suppose!

Good thread. I love Friends and I love Frasier too (apart from the dip). Could not agree more about what too many one-liners do to a script. You need to strike a balance. The dialogue has to appear normal because then the jokes are funnier. If you've got joke/joke/joke all the time there is no time for character.

While I agree you would probably be laughing at these characters if you were with them, you could never have them doing that. Imagine an episode where Frasier is constantly laughing at Niles' comments? Doesn't bear thinking about.

Actually in Frasier, Frasier does react to Niles' quips, by either smirking or retorting.

And in Friends, Courtney "Monica" Cox Arquette nearly always laughs at the funny lines.
