Another excellent article by Graham McCann and what an eye-opener!!!
Always been a fan of Mr Malleson, so I find it a bit disturbing to hear not only of him being a "dirty old man", but such a misguided naïve communist which was mistakenly reinforced by his visits to Russia and China at the height of the Iron and Bamboo curtains, with him never once wonder why he was not given the chance to speak to the very people (the workers) he thought he was supporting.
On reflection, I'd love to know what he thought of the intransigent and also misguided Fred Kite, a film in which Mr Malleson also appeared, though not in a scene with the legend that is Peter Sellers - "Ahhh, Russia. All them corn fields and ballet in the evening."
For all that I shall continue my Miles spotting in his many films, but certainly in a different light.
