Play & Record Transmission

Hey All

For anybody who got anything recorded for BBC7's Play & Record, it's finally being broadcast next Wednesday (31st) at 11:00pm. It's probably worth a listen for the rest of you hopefuls to get the tone of the show in case they repeat open submissions for next year.

It's a 4-part series on which I have a single sketch. And if it's anything like the recording, I will sit right through to the very last sketch of the whole thing and find it's there.

Or not.

Thanks

Dan

Yes got it in my diary. Great stuff Dan Swerytd!

:)

Great work mate - I went to a meeting at the BBC a few weeks ago and I spent the whole time trying to read an upside down P&R script that had been left open on a table in front of me in case it was yours. Thought I'd get an exclusive peek...

Cheers, but if it followed the recording of the show, mine would have been at the bottom of that pile!

Dan

No shame in that - if it got recorded and goes out on air it won't matter! Actually, I've always thought live audience recordings need to get stronger as they go on as the audience becomes a bit more restless and twitchy towards the end and far less likely to respond to average material.

Yeah, that's a good point actually. We'd been sat there for about three hours at that stage and people did actually laugh at it, which is a good sign for the reasons you say.

Or they'd finally gone insane and were just laughing to themselves. That's the other possibility.

Dan

Three hours? Blimey. Not been to a massive number of recordings, about a dozen, so I'm hardly speaking from experience, but the longest was roughly two hours-ish (including interval). As long as people were laughing. That, of course, after the stress of the brainstorming, the writing, the re-writing, the re-re-re writing, the rehearsing, the terror of recording, the terror of re-recording, the production editing and the tinkering, is the entire point.

Yep, pretty much mine and Dan's were after one another about the end.

At least Dan got to stay to the end, I had to go in the middle of pickups.

Note to self, even on silent the alarm still sounds on my phone.

Aha! Retrospective humour

<laughs to self at memories>

WELL DONE GUYS

Well done Dan. Hopefully it will be on the listen again thing on the BBC website aswell.

I'll listen with much anticipation and respeck!

Well done my fine friendly fellows and fiends.

Merci.

Well, my sketch wasn't in last night's episode. However, it did seem to loosely follow the 3-hour recording, with the material recorded separately up in Edinburgh 'dropped in' (the bits without the laughter track). So, if it does follow this running order, I guess mine will be the last sketch of the last episode. Still -- go out with a bang I suppose...

...or a flacid wet fart, as the case may be.

Dan

I didn't catch it last night Dan but will definitely listen next Wednesday.
