Des (short for Desperate) O'Connor's 88th birthday today.
Great people in comedy who are still alive and over 80? Page 4

He was still touring a few years ago.
Some very good suggestions in the last few posts. As previously advised, my father and his mates (with ukuleles and in black face - there is photo evidence) came second to a then unknown Des O'Connor at the Bryan Michie talent show - at the Tooting Granada I think. Which says a lot about both of them. Not that I would wish to dwell unduly on what it says.

These were really interesting - thanks very much for them.
Glynis Johns is 96 - she sparkled in quite a few (understated) comedy roles in British and US cinema.
And as we are mentioning those not quite there yet - Fawlty Towers co-creator and co-star Connie Booth will be 80 at the end of this year (yes, she really was born in 1940).
She's got good genes, her father Mervyn lived to a good age too.
Connie Booth,80 Blimey! I just checked Fawlty Towers was 45 years ago.Blimey!

Another performer who was rocketed to success by a single appearance on "Sunday Night at the London Palladium".
He appeared as a relatively unknown comic and, two years later, he was the compere.
Now, that's progress!

Definitely. It was Beatles time and he had the hairstyle.
