I can't find the original thread.
In a century which culturally I loathe, this is so magnificent it is almost beyond words. A real cult classic. Loved it the first time. Love it this time round. Will always love it. It makes me so happy even in gloom. The characterisation. The pacing. The offbeat quality. The gentleness. The normality. The offering of a way in which to identify. The truly beautiful filming and the music. The outdoors. The quality.
I would quite like to see where my original comments came up. I don't expect there to be responses. But I think it is quite well known that I have a funny peculiar way with swearing. I don't want it in a church. I do want it at football. And it pisses me off when trendy vicars say shit for effect and I am told by officials not to say the referee is a f**king wanker at the Den. I'm an everything in its right place bloke.
So I did pick up in that first running on some of the language and questioned whether it was necessary in something so iconic, nuanced and gentle. Was that Series 1? If it was, MC addressed it by not compromising one jot but getting his character saying to his wife in a half critical manner "sweary!". Then he says shit shortly afterwards which is like a "yep, I acknowledged it but I am not going to kowtow".
Not a massive issue but I found that curious. You kind of wonder. It probably turns out that it was done even before I wrote. But anyhow what a concept. Honestly, outstanding in my humble opinion - and if anyone at all who is associated with it ever looks in here, mostly I'd just like to say thanks.
