... Which is, paradoxically enough, why it doesn't work. A good sitcom isn't just a buncha dix clowning about untll the time's up - it shoud have strong charactersation, logical storylines, even an overall message or world view, and the humor should be seamlessly woven into the interplay of character versus situation / character. Benji didn't do the groundwork on this one, so he just forces the actors to say and do funny shite all the time. Take the 'Father Christmas' exchange in the first episode: it'd be a nice bit of stand-up, but has nothing to do with THAT pesonality at THAT moment... Or the Trivial Pursuit secene: it's an enjoyable sketch, but fails to develop their characters or drive the plot ahead. I enjoy a lot of this show, but technically it's extremely poor, especially after the focussed, wicked gem 'Happy Families'.
