Chat Show Sketch

---

Pretty so-so I'd say; kind of a mean-spirited Knowing Me, Knowing You. Much of the dialogue is very on-the-nose and you're way too liberal with the actor's notes. I'd crack on with another if I were you.

I quite liked it!

I liked it too.

I was kind of unsure about this sketch. I still don't know really.

btw, I was unsure of what 'on the nose' meant? Do you mean that the dialogue is quite 'fighty'?

I mean that your dialogue is sometimes too literal. Too much like exposition. Lines like this one...

"I, sir, am a Eunuch. (Turns back to Lenny) How else d’you think I keep hitting those high notes."

Why go to all that bother? If you're aiming for a quickfire exchange (as it seems you are) what's wrong with "But I'm a eunuch"?

It's a moot point though as I think the sketch itself is a no-starter. Ask yourself who is the victim of the piece and then ask why you've subjected them to their punishment. Right now you have a man being kicked in the nuts for being gay.

Rim shot.

Now I'm all for inpolitical correctness, but it's not even funny in a 'it's SO inappropriate it's funny' sense. I'm talking about the type of joke that's so way out there it becomes funny by that very virtue. Like what if it was a toddler being kicked in the nuts? That's so wrong it might just work.

Sorry to go on, but it's something that's been playing on my mind since I made a sketch recently that involved someone being smashed in the face with a hammer for no good reason. It was criticised on this very forum for being no more than a "happy slap" and though I defended it at the time, having read your gag and disliked it, I'm left with the feeling that we're both barking up the wrong tree with this sort of material.

I mean, doling out punishment to the undeserving and persecuted, well, it's just not cricket, is it?

Well, the veiled subtext was that the singer was based upon people such as Morrissey and George Michael. They're in the public eye and could help young people who are confused about their sexuality, but they just contribute to the problem by keeping quiet. Obviously, George has come out now, but it took quite a while.

"what if it was a toddler being kicked in the nuts? That's so wrong it might just work." - Now this made me laugh out loud! It's a great image!
