BBC Charter Responsibilities?

Would I be right in thinking that the BBC is bound by the charter to offer new opportunities to writers - it's one of the conditions of them getting the liscence fee. In the past there always seemed obvious shows which had an open door policy to new material (such as Weekending or The News Huddlines) however now the opportunities seem fuzzier and less clearly defined... Anybody know anything about this? Or have any opinions on it?

I thought the Writer's Room covered that - even though it's garbage, it just does enough to cover that particular remit.

The writers' room is there for 'show'. If the Beeb no longer had a requirement to appear as if they were looking for talent then they'd shut down the Writers' Room so fast it would implode into a black hole.

I'd go along with that completely.

The Writersroom is only duty bound to recieve new material, not broadcast it. That's why I don't think it fulfills charter requirements.

It also depends on your definition of 'new talent'. When the great Adam Buxton can get a slot on TV as new talent then someone's definition is being stretched beyond credibility.
