Looking for writing course recommendation

Hello all,

Newbie here - hope you're all having a great Friday!

I'm looking for a sitcom / comedy writing for TV evening or weekend course to take next year (ideally few weeks / months long) and wondered if anyone had any recommendations of particularly good ones?

I have a budget I can put towards this so open to hearing what might be out there.

The one I'm looking at currently is this one from City Academy: https://www.city-academy.com/sitcom-writing-beginners#TimetableBooking But I'm not familiar with them so have no idea if its any good!

Thanks so much in advance,
Lenny

Hi Lenny,

You could try Marc Blake. I've read one of his books and found it incredibly helpful. I know he runs courses and workshops. He posts on this forum but I haven't seen him post recently, but the link to his website is http://www.writingsitcom.co.uk/ maybe Email him.

You could also check back through the forum to find other courses.

Hope that helps.

Hi Lenny,

Why did the Chicken? run a keenly priced 5-week Sitcom for Beginners course which they'll be bringing to London in the new year. If you're near Salisbury then we have a couple of seats left for the course that starts in November.

We cover Premise & Tone, Character, Plotting and Structure plus Dialogue and Humour in some detail, with lots of examples and exercises, all in a really constructive and welcoming environment.

You can read some testimonials and find out more at www.whydidthechicken.com/courses or I'd be happy to answer any questions on info@whydidthechicken.com

Alternatively, I deliver a similar set of material through the Comedy writersroom programme at www.thecomedycrowd.com, which adds a virtual writersroom and script report to the experience.

Hope that helps!

Hi Lenny

This might not be of interest to you, but I'm running a one -day Introduction to Sitcom Writing in Brighton on the 25th November

I'm a former Executive Producer in BBC Radio Comedy and I run the day with Harry Venning (Clare in the Community Radio 4). I've posted on this website. We have a Facebook page if you're interested and I'll be putting a schedule for the day up in a couple of days. But it's essentially - the rules of sitcom, character, structure, pitching and generating ideas.

If you're interested the Facebook URL is https://www.facebook.com/NoLaughingMatterBrighton/
