Kinky Boots

Kinky Boots is on at Broadway at the moment (and I'm not in a hurry to see it at around $100), and it just made me think about the film. It doesn't appear to have been mentioned previously. I would haven't thought it was my cup of tea but it was actually rather good. Any thoughts?

"A shoe factory is on the verge of closing down, until the desperate owner is inspired by a drag queen to switch to making saucy footwear" - from https://www.comedy.co.uk/film/kinky_boots/

I saw that movie long ago. I don't remember it very well, and I think I'm mixing it up in my head with another movie about a drag queen. Was it funny? I can't remember.

Aren't you back from NYC anyhow now Tony? Did you go to any Broadway shows?

I like the rendition of the song Kinky Boots lip synched by Matt Lucas in Vic and Bob's Catterick. (almost off topic, but not quite. I refuse to grey myself out).

I'll try to stay on topic, but I am back, and yes, but not 100$ worth.

The trailer is on YouTube if you want to see it. I put it in the same category as Full Monty, When Saturday Comes, and the excellent Brassed Off.

The film title always reminds me of the song Kinky Boots that Raw Sex perform on French And Saunders. I just looked on YouTube for that song and they are all blocked in the UK by BBC Worldwide which is a jolly bad show. All I can remember is "There's a hundren million women wearing kinky boots, kinky boots OOO OOO...."

It's an easy to watch and uplifting film and Chiwetel Ejiofor is excellent in his role as the drag artist and he looks totally different in that wig. It's also set in Northampton which is my hometown and is based on a true story. Northampton has a long history of shoe making and Northampton Town Football Club are nicknamed The Cobblers. An obscure fact is the manager of Northampton Town FC used to be Graham Carr who is the father of the comedian Alan Carr.

Brilliant, thanks Chappers :) I didn't realise it was a cover and it's like watching a spoof song on Absolutely.

They were in the Avengers where Honor was famous for her leather and subsequently Diana Rigg and Linda Thorsen.

That's the song Matt Lucas lipsynchs in Catterick.

:D How have I missed that show. I just checked it out and am going to buy Catterick now as I've never seen it before and it looks right up my alley. The cast looks brilliant with Vic and Bob and Morwenna Banks and characters from Bang Bang, It's Reeves & Mortimer making an appearance. It even has Julie T Wallace who was in The Life & Loves Of a She Devil. That was a spooky drama but with pictures like this it looks like it could have come from the realm of Reeves & Mortimer :D

Cought it on cable late at night one time and I really enjoyed it.

Chiwetel Ejiofor was great in his role. However I disagree with his comment about burgundy boots not being sexy.

Tell that to my Cherry Docs dude!!!

I don't understand female clothing made specifically for men because it's not transvestism as it's mens clothing. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

This was my first introduction to Chiwetel Ejiofor's acting. Considering this was based on a true story I thought the film did a fine job showing a turnaround in a local business and its impact in the community by embracing change. Granted, from my understanding the business in question no longer exists, which is a shame because it would have been marvelous to see it actually prosper and spread out internationally. The transgender community in America alone would have been more than happy to be repeat customers in the bigger shoe sizes. No word on what happened to Chitwetel's character either.
