moral dilema

Right then, here it is.
I've got a cousin that has quite a few industry links.
We haven't spoken properely for a year or two after a trivial disagreement.
I've got this kind of "I wouldn't lower myself to ask" attitude about it. But he
could get a script seen by someone worthwhile.
So should I whore myself?

Where's Cilla Black when you need her eh?..

Do it man, They resources to be used, you can afford to be timid. :) I would.

it depends what the trivial argument was about i suppose. if it was whether to go for the science and nature pie first, you should be fine, however if you slept with your auntie I'd probably leave it.

mend the relationship first. then leave it a while before sending him scripts.
if he has the ability to pass scripts to people who are worthwhile then he has the ability to tell them you are a c**t.

Hehe :D I do hope it was the Auntie option.

Listen, I'm not one of those full of shit people that say you shouldn't ask people for their contacts. As a writer you are like a business and businesses network all the time. You might have a hot script that will hugely benefit the production company and then your cousin will benefit too.

Its so difficult to get anywhere in this industry you have to take any opportunity and you're doing your cousin no harm in the process. If you don't you'll kick yourself that your pride got in the way of an opportunity right on your doorstep.

Plus disagreements are never good and get worse the longer they exist.

Sorry, but this isn't much of a moral dilemma. A moral dilemaa is whether to give the head of BBC comedy a blow job if he agrees to put your script into development. Or threatening to hurt a TV producers children if they don't get you a table reading.

Whore to the max baby... its so hard to get on in this industry as it is... i say whore whore and then some more... you can start the trivial row again once your writing is on t.v... can he help me as well... because i can whore it up... i aint proud

Look at it this way..

You don't whore yourself and die in poverty when you could have made a million..

So, what you gonna do?

You're right, stand by your principles!!! ;)

Think you have it bad me and Steven Merchant had a massive arguement a few years back... we were working on a script called "the paper merchants" thank god nothing good came of it!

Get used to crawling over your dignity and self-respect, it's the only way to get ahead.

Laughing out loud

Do it.

Agreed

Yeah, whore yourself until the cows come home (not the first time I've used that sentence! :S) Maybe it'll bring you and your cousin closer together and will act as the catalyst for mending your relationship.

I guess your cousin will never be aware of this discussion.

Way I see it everyone who seeks to do something for money or any other kind of personal advantage or satisfaction is a whore ... so you may as well go for it! As the whores in the world far outnumber the rest (I am not part of the 'rest', nobody else here is either if you think about it) then just think of it as going with the majority!

Yes, this is an opportunity worth exploring. If you can take the cousin to lunch at a truly nice restaurant, discuss your script over a 50-100 quid meal for the both of you, then you'll be demonstrating how serious you are about achieving success.

Be nice and positive no matter what the cousin says. You may want to try him again in the future. And be nice to the restaurant staff, too.

It's cool to be nice.
