Inspired by Stephen Goodlad in another thread:
My first car was a 1973 Peugeot 304 S. I got it in 1983 and it was a complete rust bucket. But I loved it. I've hankered after one for years but on a website that tells you how many are still registered in the U.K. There are less than 30.
I know I have mentioned it before - mine was a Simca Special lol. I bought it second hand in 1974/5 (I was 18 or 19)
The colour was officially grasshopper green - as I was also, I didn't know a thing about cars.
It had a leather bench front seat which was great for fitting 3 or 4 of my mates all in the front
There was though, plenty of 'shift yer leg, I need to change gear - or have a mate to change gear for you going on.
The thing I didn't like was, when I was driving alone and I went round a right-hand bend I had to hang onto the steering wheel for grim death because I was slipping across the car. That is, until someone showed me the pull down leather bolster/arm in the middle. Doh!
But that arm had other hidden qualities. Taking a girl home and giving her a goodnight kiss while sneakily putting it back up gave me unhindered access.............

Wouldn't keeping an empty bottle in the car been less messy/smelly if you couldn't get out of the car in time to go behind a hedge?
A 1971 Beetle (new). I loved the Beetle even though I suppose it was a bit noisy and didn't have much boot space. Also it could be difficult to park because of the sloping front and back, but I never damaged it, though a couple of other anonymous swine did manage to bash it with their manoeuvres. I replaced it in 1978 with something (new) whose name I've long forgotten and which turned out to be fairly crap - at 7 months the alternator failed and at that time, there was no guarantee on alternators. Anyway it met a bad end when somebody smashed into it at traffic lights and caused a 4-car pile up with me and 2 cars in front of me. I still remember the nutter in the car in front of me, getting out and shouting at me when I was sitting there in a sandwich of metal.
I once had a woman shout and swear at me because I shunted her right off the road onto the grass verge.
It was on a roundabout motorway entrance and the 2 outside lanes were motorway only (white lines leading you onto it)
She cut across both lanes right in front of me because she wasn't going onto the motorway and bang, I hit her on the drivers door and up the grass verge we went.
After she had done shouting at my bad driving she said it was all my fault as she does that every morning.
Mine was a 1978 Chevy Nova in this color scheme:

I quite like Dabutt's. What did they call that colour? Can't just be brown. Burnished umber. Desert gold. Autumn leaf?
Or maybe in the no-nonsense 70s they did just call it brown.

Our band had one of those - later model, but not much.
You could see the road through a hole in the floor.
That van is so cute.
I want to see first motorbikes too, please!
