Political Art

I have been trying to write topical sketches for a little while and find it very difficult. I would appreciate comments. Thanks.

Political Art- Sketch

INT. GALLERY OF MODERN ART. DAY.

A PRESENTER VERY SIMILAR TO BRIAN SEWELL IS SPEAKING TO HARRIET HARMAN ABOUT A NEW EXHIBIT

Brian
Good evening. Tonight in the Tit Modern Gallery, we will be looking at a controversial new piece of political art; “Shitbollocks” This piece is 167 metres long crack in the floor. It starts at one end as a hair line fracture and widens as it nears its end. Harriet, what does this piece represent?

Harriet
Well Brian, it represents the end of a honeymoon.

Brian
Could you explain further?

Harriet
Yes, it represents the utter horror of the electorate waking up in the morning and seeing who it’s married and wishing it could divorce him and remarry the younger bloke next-door. The hairline crack at the beginning is the Labour party conference and the widest point is after the Cameron’s speech at the Tory conference and a missed election opportunity.

Brian
How deep is the ravine?

Harriet
It’s about as deep as an election promise.

Brian
About one inch then?

Harriet
No no much deeper than that. At one point, it is up to 100 metres deep. We like to call it a shaft after what we will do to the population if we win another term.

Brian
Do you think you will win another term with this exhibit?

Harriet
If Gordon carries on this way then about as much chance as Kylie Minogue getting married.

BRIAN POINTS TO SEVERAL MEN AT ANOTHER WEIRD EXHIBIT STICK BROKEN PIECES BACK ON WITH GLUE.

Brian
And what is this exhibit here?

Harriet
This is called Brown’s Reputation. These men have been drafted in with new ideas on how to rebuild it.

Brian
Harriet, thank you very much.

I liked that - the exaggerated contrast of styles is right up my street. If you want constructive criticism I'd say some of the lines are a little contrived, still funny though.

Really liked it... well done

As I'm so new I feel a bit awkward about commenting but I enjoyed it so it's a big, fat, well done from me, too.

Don't feel awkward Marion, its refreshing to have new users who are interested in all of the work in the critique instead of just their own.

I didn't get this sketch for a while as I hadn't read about the Tate Modern thing in the news. Now I have I think its good :)

Thnks for the comments guys
