Shooting Stars Page 20

Thought the review was pretty much spot on. Doesn't mean I won't watch and enjoy moments in the new series, but the points argued are all objectively reasonable and valid.

Has there ever been a comedy show that made a comeback where people DIDN'T say it was better in the old days? Probably not.

Robin Hood - Errol Flynn version blew away everything preceding it - and yes it is a Rom Com (with a bit of action adventure thrown in) - not been bettered since though.

And best Star Trek film ever........ The new one!

:)

The whole balance being off thing isn't, to my eyes. I'm certainly not looking as Lucas thinking, 'ooh, he's a superstar doing a favour for his mates'. I just think 'he's part of the show, why wouldn't he come back?'

The latest episode was hilarious, I thought.

The competition is hardly that stiff though.

See my previous post on this topic, Matthew, but I think objectively it's a fair comment to make about the motives of the various original participants. I somehow doubt that R&M's first wish for a new TV outing was to bring back Shooting Stars. There will undoubtedly be some funny moments, but it's not going to be essential viewing in the way it might once have been. Like many things it was of its time.

They still haven't put this on Catchup/On-demand/iPlayer Angry

As far as I can see, this is the same show as it ever was. And for that I'm thankful. And to those people who were expecting them to shake up the format, why on Earth would they for God's sake?

Agreed. It's exactly the same, and exactly as good, in my opinion!

It's too late Tim, you've agreed with a negative review of Shooting Stars which is akin to metaphorically taking a dump on Baby Jesus' face.

Why do you hate Shooting Stars Tim? Why? I bet you're a kiddly fiddler and a gay and don't have a girlfriend. You scum, you rubbish, etc.

The review is correct though, Reeves and Mortimer have pretty much dragged out a carbon copy of a show they did ten or more years ago. If you were to drop any of the new episodes in with the old ones, it would be hard to tell the difference.

Like yourself, I'll still enjoy vast quantaties of the new series, but it's not something we haven't seen before and despite Reeves and Mortimer not wanting to be paid loads of money to have a hit comedy show on the BBC (sniff, the poor muthaf**kers), I still think they've been a tad bit lazy.

WHICH IS A GOOD THING!
(To me.)
:)

Again, I have to ask, why would they want to change the format of the show? Why? Buzzcocks has never changed as far as I know. HIGNFY has never changed either. So why are Vic and Bob being "lazy" in not changing Shooting Stars?

Uvavu.

You can't have it both ways Lee. You can't proclaim that Reeves and Mortimer are completely off the wall, totally orginal and surreal comedy genuises of our times when they just trot out the same routine over and over again.

HIGNFY is almost unwatchably stale and the Buzzcocks is losing talent like rats from a sinking ship. The difference being that HIGNFY and Buzzcocks weren't the brainchild of Reeves and Mortimer and thus never recieved the comedic high brow plaudits that were lauded over Shooting Stars.

Do I expect more from Reeves and Mortimer? Damn straight. Was I disappointed they didn't rejuvanate the genre? Damn straight.

So either quit eulogising the pair as the second coming or admit that this is a lazy money making exercise.

I think it's an exercise to get permission to make a new series of Smell Of or Catterick, but I also can see that they really enjoy making Shooting Stars (especially the mini previously filmed sketches), and that it is hilarious to watch.
I didn't want them to change it and I'm glad they haven't!
