Now ITV have dropped the British Comedy Awards, is anybody else going to broadcast them? I hope so. Although the evening usually descends into an orgy of self-congratulatory backslapping, it is one of the best ceremonies going, and Jonathan Ross's opening monologue is usually very funny.
The British Comedy Awards?
Well the BBC have turned it down, but it strikes me as a Five type event.

Can Five afford Ross?
I'm Ross Cook and will do the programme on the cheap. Maybe get myself a few contacts in the biz
I really don't like Award shows, in fact they are my choice for when I'm invited onto Room 101
But if I had to watch one, it would probably be this one, unless I'm invited to any others for my own award that is
The rumour I hear is Channel 4 are looking to re-arrange their schedules to fit the broadcast in.
I find it barmy that ITV have ditched it, yet aren't ditching GMTV (which had a far worse phone scandal). The Comedy Awards bring in a huge audience (typically 5 or 6 million) and is very attractive for advertisers to be associated with - if I was a controller I'd be desperate to show them on my channel!
One day Mark, one day.
When is the BCG becoming a tv channel? I can see it now, it'll be like UKTV G2 OR Dave, maybe you could call it Mark?
Big ambitions there, eh Lee?
(I think we should call it Oblong.)
As you may have read via our news story, it doesn't look like we're going to get to see the British Comedy Awards 2007. I'm dead upset about this.
As Aaron said to me, why doesn't ITV just drop the People's Choice Award - then surely there's no issue? I can't help but feel they've got an ulterior motive they're not telling us about.
Anyway, if you're feeling upset like me why not send an email to the lovely people at ITV and let them know what you think? dutyoffice@itv.com
It doesn't make sense at all, how on earth can this be good for PR as well? Do you think half the stars will bother turning up too? ITV are idiots if they block this.
The only thing I'll miss is the chance that Not Going Out could win an award, everything else I couldn't care for, can't really be doing with most of the smugness and there's been very little decent British comedy this past year there's hardly any shows that deserve an award.
ITV are eeeevil gits.
I sent them an e-mail earlier. I wasn't very nice.
