From my biased perspective, the key one that wasn't is Damn The Torpedoes on the British Forces Broadcasting Service! As far as I'm aware BFBS is the only other national radio network broadcasting comedy, but I may be wrong (i often am).

Is Frank Skinner's show on Absolute not a BBC thing? Absolute isn't BBC is it? I have no idea how that stuff works (American, sorry)

Absolute is not a BBC station, no. But it's a regular music show presented by a comedian rather than a comedy show in itself, so doesn't come under our remit.

Oh, I tend to forget that it actually has music in it, since the music parts are cut out of it when I download it as a podcast. My mistake.

Ah yes I was aware of that programme when details were posted on the site but it hadn't dawned on me how it was groundbreaking in the sense of being unusually Not the BBC.

Interesting and well done to all those involved but such a short list confirms just how important the BBC has been to radio comedy across the decades.
