Red Dwarf (RIP?)

Have a look at the news section at http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/

-The BBC rejected a ninth series in favour of other projects (Hyperdrive...)
-They won't be buying the TV rights of the movie as though they liked the script they don't think it'll be a success.

Like many people, really pissed off at having to wait for the film, a ninth series seemed like a good alternative particularly the way 8 ended.

It would be interesting to see more Dwarf but I didn't think much of series 7 or 8 so wouldn't be too disappointed if it never came back.

The types of money that have been talked about (£12m+) with regards to a new series or movie make it not very surprising that nothing has yet happened.

The idea of a movie stage show sounds interesting but no doubt every joke and plot point would be available on the internet after 1 show so that might spoil it ever so slightly.

Im a huge Red Dwarf fan, but have to agree that I cant see a film being a huge success. As for a ninth series, in some ways it would be great, but its been nearly ten years or something since the last series, which was a bit crap anyway, perhaps best just to leave it as it is, rather than risk tarnishing further the shows reputation. If there is a desire for more, then maybe they should think of writing more novels, I always thought they were great.

Huge Red Dwarf fan too but glad a film or 9th isn't going to happen. 7 and 8 were enough to begin tarnishing the reputation.

I guess Hyperdrive is cheaper.

Yeah, let it RIP.

Hyperdrive made it all the more simple by forgetting to hire writers.

Dear BBC, make the last few series of Red Dwarf a BLT dream and then give us a couple of Christmas specials to finish off the series. You can fund it with the proceeds from your dodgy Blue Peter phone-ins.

Pie

P.S. I know where you live!

In a way, it would be nice to tie up the loose ends, but I just fear a film or another series would be even worse than 7 and 8 were. Can just imagine it being full of in-jokes, resurrecting Dwane Dibley and Ace Rimmer yet again, and an ageing cast looking for one last mega pay-day. Perhaps a one-hour TV special would be a sort of compromise and then it can die in peace.

In truth, not all of series 7 was that bad. There were some good episodes scattered around, but 8 just didn't work. Shame, but it still pissed all over Hyperdrive!

How can Red Dwarf RIP?

Wasn't it about the future so in effect it hasn't happened yet.

Actually this is the second time around so actually it happened before us.

Very good point there David!

Nothing goes on forever, didn't they hit the sun then.. I lost track of it.. love the theme music in particular and it was a very funny show!

huge fan as well but i think its time has past now. Best leave it as it was, which is still watchable today.

I'd like to see nine series of Hyperdrive, and a movie, just to piss people off. Me included.

I wish they would just put the Dwarf to bed. Bringing back Craig Charles and Danny John-jules along with someone like Normal Lovett will just show the age of the show. If there will be a movie it'll have to be recast. And what happens to decent British shows that are recast?!?! That's right! They all become American. Not that Americans are in any shape a lower lifeform than the English Rolling eyes
