Get This Song Out Of My Head Thread!

Why do songs currently get stuck in your head, particularly when you haven't heard the song for years?

This is currently doing my nut in!

I don't know.Sometimes wonder if I've heard the song without been conscious of it- maybe on supermarket radio or something. Although the last song that seemed to randomly pop into my head was one from Cats, which is not usually played supermarkets and I haven't seen it recently.

Being a good member I did search before I created a new thread. How stupid am I not to have thought of that well known phrase 'ear worm' :S

My second hand CD "The Esso Trinidad Steel Band", originally recorded in 1971 arrived this week and the weird thing is that as soon as I saw the cover I had a massive sense of deja vu. It was never in my collection so I can only assume it was on vinyl in my infants/junior school in the mid 1970s. I bought it because I was in an avant garde classical music project alongside South London steel drum people when I was 10 and also had a woman pen friend who had been my teacher and who having been born in Jamaica later moved to Trinidad and Tobago.

The song I've currently got stuck in my head is Can't Get You Out of my Head - is there any way out of this??
