Kept missing it so caught on repeat properly last night. Stayed with it for first 2 episodes as cast is so great and though I can see the characters coming through and what writers were aiming for - for some reason it didn't quite gel for me. Must be a grower rather than a shower!
Just a tad too leftfield which means too much to take in initially? Mention has been made of League of Gents, Boosh and Psychoville but I kinda got their vibe straightaway, whereas this is more like gatecrashing a weird party where all guests are on something you are not privy to.
I really really wanted it to make me laugh, but I guess it didn't because it's a hybrid with great actors rather than anything obscure with Matt Berry in it (who can make me laugh without saying a damn thing) that makes it too much like hard work.
Hasn't been a dark comedy that has really grabbed me since Julia Davis in Nighty Night, but that was a very straightforward concept that hit you in the nards from outset, rather than writers taking approach to challenge perception of viewer and their attention span.
