Elvis crammed so many drugs down his throat , it's a wonder he didn't rattle every time he shook his hips

I see Elvis' drug use as different to the others though, as his addiction came from doing prescription drugs, due to health issues, sleeping problems etc., rather than hedonism/wanting to get high.

I agree with you ,there's still lots of oldies from the 60's still around.eg: Joni Mitchell who may have had as much or even more musical influence then Crosby.

Thank you 🙂

Yeah, I like them all, but in Britain they were not massively popular over here. They sold albums for sure but chart wise they came in rather low with albums and singles, and as I said they did not have popular appeal and were rarely seen on TV (none of them were on Top of the Pops), and it would have been rare if they even appeared on The Old Grey Whistle Test. Most of these big rock acts could make far more cash touring North America (particulary Led Zeppelin and The Who). In the early seventies when album rock began to shift serious amounts in the U.S.A., this country was in the grip of glam rock and substandard middle of the road chart pap.

The Byrds had 6 hits over here. Mr Tambourine Man got to number 1, All I really want to do number 4 and my favourite Chestnut Mare number 19.

Wow! Didn't realise they had such a huge catalogue of hits - no wonder someone said they were the spirit of the 60s.

No-one said that.

I think we can safely say the spirit of the 60's is dead.

I wasn't talking about The Byrds.
Do keep up.

Don't patronise, it's not nice

Silly me, and there was me thinking Crosby was in the Byrds

I'm not patronising you.
I'm just pointing out you're wrong and suggesting you keep abreast of the conversation.
He was in several bands, The Byrds being one.
But I said I felt that David Crosby summed up the spirit of the 60's.
Which I still believe to be true.
Try imagining a world where people have different tastes & opinions to you.
It might help.

There you go again!
And of course, I was forgetting that you are never wrong

"But I said I felt that David Crosby summed up the spirit of the 60's."
No, you didn't - you said :-
"I think we can safely say the spirit of the 60's is dead."
Which is a totally different kettle of fish

And I say again - IF you had originally said "summed up" OR "a", instead of "the", I would maybe have agreed with you and let it pass without comment.

OK, Herc.

It's a good job you two didn't speak at his funeral
