Gary Larson's The Far Side

Bit surprised that there's no thread for the award winning cartoonist, Gary Larson. With his far side cartoons. He really was a breath of fresh air when he first came out.

At the time, the UK (tabloid) cartooning still had a seaside postcard hangover, my wife's fat type of jokes. America was producing more thoughtful cartoons. Ironically, the complete flip of how situation comedies were running in each country. Gary Larson was the Monty Python of cartooning. I appreciate foreign comedy's not popular on this site, but when they're this good, can we ignore them ? What does everyone think ?

Cartoons

A brilliant cartoonist. I've lost count of the number of cartoon strips imitating him.

I think he is genuinely funny. His jokes should be on the telly.

I absolutely love The Far Side. The way Gary Larson juxtaposes normality with a surreal alternative always feels effortlessly simple, but amazingly sublime.

It's a shame he stopped doing The Far Side, but there's still a wealth of material out there to enjoy.

"Larson has asked his fans not to repost his work on the internet. In a public letter, he told fans his work was too personal and important to him to have others take control of it."

I think it was from a couple of years ago.

By no means! You must ignore Mr "Good Day" Sunshine's sour grapes and publish as many as you like - I love 'em!!

(I think you should be quite safe on this forum - don't think Mr Larson will find and sue you )
